Keith Bryant has filed a lawsuit against the State of Louisiana, Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Secretary James W. LeBlanc, Angela Griffin, and other unknown defendants in the Court of Appeal through the Fourth Circuit. The case ID is 2023-C-0786 and it was filed on April 17, 2024.

The lawsuit arises from an incident that occurred on April 16, 2017, when Bryant was arrested and charged with aggravated second-degree battery. Unable to post bail, he remained incarcerated throughout his criminal proceedings. His legal counsel for this case includes William Most and Caroline Gabriel from Most & Associates.

Bryant pleaded guilty on January 11, 2018, and was sentenced to serve one year at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He was released on April 18, 2018. However, Bryant alleges that he was detained beyond his legal sentence after pleading guilty.

In his suit, Bryant seeks judgment for being over-detained by approximately ninety-five days past his good-time release date which he claims violated his federal and state rights to due process of law. He alleges damages due to false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
