Southern University Law Center professor Angela Allen-Bell has released two new books that equips readers with understanding of the systemic inheritances that affect Louisiana's legal system.

Allen-Bell’s first book Under Indictment: Race, Juries & Justice in Louisiana, memorializes the change from non-unanimous juries back to jury unanimity in Louisiana.

“Under Indictment performs an audit, inquest and assessment of Louisiana's legal system," said Allen-Bell. “This book is a manifestation of my commitment to challenging Black juror suppression.”

Her second book, Diversity in the Jury Box and Beyond, discusses the importance of jury diversity.

“Diversity in the Jury Box suggests that a failing system-which I identify Louisiana's legal system as-can be transformed," said Allen-Bell. “It unveils my original proposal."
