Robert Kallam, a 1990 graduate of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center and partner at Kean Miller LLP in Lafayette, has been appointed chair of the LSU Law Alumni Board of Trustees for the 2024-26 term by LSU Law Dean Alena M. Allen.
“Serving the law school, our alumni, and Dean Allen is a tremendous honor,” said Kallam, who has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2010. “I am excited to continue the trustees’ work to ensure that LSU Law will always provide a top-quality legal education at an affordable price, while also reenergizing our alumni awards program.”
The LSU Law Alumni Board of Trustees comprises 25 to 40 alumni who serve as trusted advisors to the dean of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, work to increase alumni engagement, and help identify opportunities for professional development and career advancement for LSU Law graduates. The board will also plan and execute the LSU Law Honors program, which will take place next spring to recognize alumni for life-long contributions to various aspects of the profession as well as emerging talents in the legal field.
“I am thrilled that Robert will continue to serve his alma mater and lead our Board of Trustees as chair,” said LSU Law Dean Alena M. Allen. “Robert’s exceptional leadership and tireless work ethic make him the ideal person to chair the Board. The Board of Trustees is instrumental in shaping the future of LSU Law, and with such dedicated and talented members, I am confident in our ability to continue making decisions that benefit our entire LSU Law community. I’m eager to collaborate with them as we move forward.”
A Lafayette native, Kallam is a two-time graduate of LSU, earning his bachelor’s degree from the university in 1987. As a law student, he participated in several moot court competitions and won the 1990 Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition at LSU Law.
Following his graduation from the Law Center in 1990, he has continued to remain engaged by volunteering to teach courses as part of Apprenticeship Week. He is also a member of the LSU Law Dean’s Council, the law school’s annual leadership giving group, and an inductee of the LSU Law Center’s Hall of Fame.
In 2019, Kallam joined Kean Miller’s offshore energy and marine litigation practice group. He has over 30 years of litigation experience in both state and federal courts, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers, Acadiana Profile, and The Best Lawyers in America. He is also the immediate past president of the Lafayette Bar Association. Prior to joining Kean Miller, Kallam was a partner at Preis PLC for almost 20 years and with Voorhies & Labbe for over 10 years.
Kallam is married to Michelle Rome Kallam (’93) and together they have four children, Barrett, Caroline (LSU ’20, ’22), Benjamin (LSU ’24), and William (LSU ’23).
