In a compelling legal case filed in Louisiana, a couple is taking on a major delivery corporation over an alleged injury caused by negligent package delivery. Veronica Neal and her husband Mark Neal have filed a lawsuit against United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) in the First Judicial District Court of Caddo Parish, Louisiana, on October 7, 2024. The plaintiffs allege that UPS's improper delivery practices led to personal injury and subsequent damages.

The case centers around an incident that occurred on July 16, 2024, at the Neals' residence located at 1600 Murphy St., Shreveport, Louisiana. According to the complaint, an unidentified UPS employee delivered a package and left it directly in front of Ms. Neal’s door. As she stepped outside her home, Ms. Neal slipped on the package and sustained injuries. The plaintiffs argue that UPS failed in its duty to safely deliver packages by placing them in potentially hazardous locations such as directly in front of doors where they could obstruct pathways.

Veronica Neal accuses UPS of several counts of negligence including failing to place the package in a safe area away from the door, not ensuring that the package did not pose a slip hazard, failing to remove or warn about the hazard, and creating dangerous conditions for customers like herself. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that UPS is vicariously liable for its employees' actions due to inadequate training and supervision practices which contributed to this negligence.

The Neals are seeking compensation for various damages caused by this incident. Veronica Neal demands recovery for past and future medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, functional impairment and disability, scarring and disfigurement, lost wages, loss of economic opportunity, and loss of enjoyment of life. Her husband Mark Neal also seeks damages for loss of consortium due to his wife's injuries.

The plaintiffs’ attorney Lane Robinson from Morris & Dewett LLC has outlined these claims with detailed interrogatories aimed at uncovering more information from UPS regarding their policies and procedures related to package deliveries. They are also requesting documents related to any internal investigations conducted by UPS concerning this incident.

The case is presided over by Judge Terry A. Doughty with Magistrate Judge Mark L Hornsby assisting under Case ID: 5:24-cv-01365-TAD-MLH.
