Loyola Community,

I’m excited to share an update about our new seven-story residence hall located at the corner of Freret and Calhoun. Construction is on schedule and expected to finish by Fall 2025. Crews have started interior and exterior finishes, including brick installation, wall framing, and flooring, so you can expect to see the building take shape over the next few months.

The completion of this space represents a transformative milestone for our community. The new hall will provide apartment-style housing for more than 600 students, allowing significantly more of our student population to live on campus. Studies show that on-campus living improves retention, academic performance, and student satisfaction—reducing travel expenses, improving safety, and enhancing access to support services.

In addition to filling a critical housing need, the building also reflects our commitment to sustainability. It meets the latest guidelines for energy efficiency and stormwater management and is one of the first buildings in the region to follow the newly adopted International Energy Efficiency Code.

Key building features:

  • A substantial rooftop solar panel covering ~30% of the building’s electrical needs.
  • Energy-saving systems like continuous insulation, occupancy sensors, and timed lighting.
  • Full wireless coverage and hard-wired data connections for seamless streaming and heavy usage.
  • A central courtyard and community room for campus-wide events and gatherings.
  • Safety measures including access controls and an emergency generator for critical systems.
The Room Selection process for returning students will open in January 2025. Returning students can select to live in the new residence hall based on availability during this process. Look out for further details from Residential Life on room options and features as we approach early Spring 2025.

Thank you to our Facilities department leadership and our partners at EskewDumezRipple, Woodward+Design+Build and Dupont-LeCorgne Construction Consultants for helping us realize this new vision for our campus community. And thank you, Wolf Pack, for your continued support and flexibility as we complete this momentous achievement, which will serve generations of students to come.

Take good care,

Alicia A. Bourque, Ph.D.Vice President of Student Affairs
