A Louisiana resident has filed a lawsuit against two medical device companies, alleging that their product caused severe health complications. Clinton Carrier Jr. initiated the complaint on December 20, 2024, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against AngioDynamics, Inc., and Navilyst Medical, Inc.

The lawsuit centers around a medical device known as the LifePort Vascular Access Port, which is designed to facilitate repeated access to the vascular system for various medical treatments. Carrier claims that this device was defectively designed and manufactured, leading to significant health issues following its implantation. The complaint accuses the defendants of negligence, failure to warn, design defects, breach of warranties (both implied and express), fraudulent concealment, and violations of the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law (LUTPA).

Carrier's legal team argues that AngioDynamics and Navilyst Medical failed in their duty to ensure the safety of their product before releasing it into the market. They allege that despite knowing about potential risks associated with the LifePort device—such as infection and mechanical failure—the companies continued to market it as safe. The complaint highlights numerous adverse event reports received by the defendants from healthcare providers indicating post-implantation fractures and migrations of device components within patients' bodies.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses incurred due to additional surgeries necessitated by complications from the LifePort implant, and other economic losses. Carrier also demands punitive damages under LUTPA for what he describes as deceptive business practices by AngioDynamics and Navilyst Medical.

Representing Clinton Carrier Jr. are attorneys Jennifer Greene from Bey and Associates in New Orleans and Kimberly L. Boldt from Ratzan Weissman & Boldt in Miami. The case is identified under Case No.: 6:24-cv-01782 but does not yet list a presiding judge.
