Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Carol Markowitz will leave her position at the University later this month to become the Chief Executive Officer of SBP, a national nonprofit focused on disaster resilience and recovery.

During her five years at Loyola, Markowitz has been an integral member of the university’s executive leadership team, guiding the institution to financial stability and growth. She managed a $175 million portfolio of transformative capital projects, including the recently opened Chapel of St. Ignatius at the Gayle and Tom Benson Jesuit Center, a new 600+ bed residence hall set to open in fall 2025, a major renovation of the student center, and plans for the third-party development of a campus hotel, with construction beginning later this year.

Stuart Gay, Vice President of Finance, will assume oversight of the university’s financial functions. All other offices previously reporting to Markowitz will now report directly to the Office of the President until further notice.

“Carol has been a transformative leader whose dedication to Loyola’s mission has left an enduring legacy,” said Loyola President Xavier Cole. “We thank her for her exceptional service and wish her all the best in her new role.”
