The William A. Brookshire Veterans Law Clinic at LSU Law has received $200,000 in additional funding to continue providing no-cost legal services and support to active members or veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves or National Guards.

The funding is a portion of the recent $9.575 million gift to LSU from the William A. Brookshire Foundation that will also establish the William A. Brookshire ROTC Scholarship at LSU, support the new LSU Construction & Advanced Manufacturing Building, and strengthen the LSU College of Engineering’s S&B Engineers and Constructors Scholarship as well as LSU’s Future Scholars Program.

Established in 2022 with a $600,000 gift from Brookshire Foundation, the Veterans Law Clinic works in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs to meet the legal needs of veterans who are appealing their claims before the federal Board of Veterans’ Appeals. In doing so, the clinic also provides invaluable experiential learning to LSU Law students under the careful guidance of seasoned faculty.

The clinic was inspired by 2024 LSU Law graduate Brock McKiness, a U.S. Army combat veteran who brought the idea for the clinic to administrators at the Law Center while he was a law student and president of the Veterans Advocacy Club.
