Fox Rothschild congratulates Kelly Dempsey and Afi S. Johnson-Parris, who were selected as finalists for Daily Report’s 2025 Southeastern Legal Awards.

The awards program honors attorneys in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee.

Dempsey, selected as an “Attorney of the Year” finalist, is among those who the publication believes had the biggest impact on the law or the Southeast legal community in the past year.

A fierce, compassionate and experienced advocate, Dempsey provides legal representation to a broad range of diverse clients in all aspects of family formation. Co-Chair of the Adoption & Family Formation Practice at Fox, she has testified before Congress, tried cases to a verdict before juries and helped hundreds of clients around the world. She recently fought to help the adoptive parents of nearly 100 orphans bring their children home from Haiti, where their lives are at risk due to ongoing civil unrest.

Johnson-Parris, a “Distinguished Leaders” finalist, is among those who “achieved impressive results in 2024 and demonstrated clear leadership skills that helped them achieve those results.”

A North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Family Law Specialist, she advises clients on a variety of complex legal issues related to absolute divorce, collaborative divorce, equitable distribution, alimony, child custody and support, name changes and pre/post-nuptial agreements.

An Air Force veteran, she believes strongly in giving back to her community. She is chair of the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Division, which teaches over 30,000 members the business of practicing law with a focus on marketing, management, technology and finance.

She is also on the boards of the NC Equal Access to Justice Foundation, North Carolina Bar Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and the Guilford Education Alliance, an independent nonprofit that encourages the community to support Guilford County Schools (GCS). Recently, she and the board actively supported GCS in their successful $2 billion bond campaign.

Dempsey and Johnson-Parris will be honored during a special event May 2025.
