Southern University Law Center's (SULC) Clinical Legal Education Program is proud to announce its inaugural “Know Your Rights for Kids” event on March 31, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the campus of Southern University and A&M College. This initiative aims to equip young individuals with crucial knowledge about their legal rights and foster positive community relationships.

“Investing in our students is an investment in our future,” said Virgina B. Listach, Director of Clinical Legal Education Program. “Our teens possess power and potential not yet realized, they just need the knowledge to move forward.”

We are committed to making this interaction positive for both our youth and the police to advance a healthier working relationship in the community.

The “Know Your Rights for Kids” event will feature engaging discussions led by legal professionals, community leaders, and law enforcement officers. Participants will gain practical insights into their rights, responsibilities, and best practices for safely navigating encounters with law enforcement.

All East Baton Rouge (EBR) schools will participate in this important initiative. Community vendors will also be present to provide valuable resources and services. As a special highlight, attendees will receive wristbands featuring a police shield with the message “Know Your Rights.”

Together, we can ensure that our youth are well-informed, confident, and prepared to contribute positively to their communities.
