Judge denies request to have RICO allegations stricken

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana has denied motions from the Bankers Insurance Company and Bankers Surety Services to have alleged RICO violations made of the companies stricken from official statements, and for sanctions to be levied against the plaintiffs.

NEW ORLEANS – Local jazz musician Paul Batiste's lawsuit against the popular hip-hop group Macklemore and Ryan Lewis over allegations of sampling has been handed a setback from federal judge Martin L.C. Feldman as the alleged report from an expert musicologist who was meant to defend the plaintiff has been excluded from the case.

District judge allows case against UPS to move forward on its racial discrimination claims

NEW ORLEANS – As package delivery behemoth UPS faces a two-fold Title XII and ADA lawsuit from a current employee, Judge Jay Zainey of the Eastern District Court of Louisiana has honored and denied two separate motions from the defendant, moving the case forward upon altered terms.

NEW ORLEANS – Resulting from a prior personal injury lawsuit, Senior Judge Ivan Lemelle ruled on Mar 28 that Rain CII, the owner and operator of a calcining facility in Gramercy, is entitled to reimbursements for attorney’s fees and costs from a subcontractor.

Judge rules in favor of property owners seeking over $435,000 from East Jefferson General Hospital

NEW ORLEANS – Following nearly two years of disagreements regarding unpaid rent between East Jefferson General Hospital and its property owners, Judge Carl Barbier granted East Jefferson Medical Plaza, who has owned the land since 2008, a victory against the financially riddled hospital.

Appellate court reverses ruling in contract dispute over collapse of Canal Street building's wall

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeals has granted the owner of a downtown New Orleans property an appeal, reversing and remanding a lower court's decision regarding a contract dispute between it and a construction company after a wall collapsed on the project.
