Gretna police officer accused of injuring motorists in rear-end collision

GRETNA – A Gretna police officer accused of injuring a motorist after rear-ending him is being sued along with his employer over the accident.

Lloyd Johnson filed suit against Philip Saladina, Gretna Police Department, City of Gretna and OneBeacon America Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 23.

Johnson claims that on May 3, 2014 he was driving his 2003 Toyota Tundra at the intersection of Laboeuf Street and U.S. Highway 90 in Gretna when he was rear-ended by a Gretna Police Department vehicle driven by Philip. The plaintiff alleges he suffered serious physical injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain reasonable vigilance, failing to see what should have been seen, carelessly and recklessly operating a motor vehicle, negligent injury, failing to avoid the accident, driving in an inattentive and distracted manner and being an unskilled and irresponsible vehicle operator.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earnings, medical expenses and property damages.

Johnson is represented by Ron A. Austin of Harvey-based Ron A. Austin & Associates LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

Case no. 749-021.
