GRETNA – A corporate retailer is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured when a chair collapsed beneath her when she visited a local store seeking a job.
Venice Mallet, and husband Dwayne, filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Walmart Louisiana LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 7.
Mallet alleges that on May 28, 2014 she visited the Wal-Mart located at 1501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey to apply for a job. The plaintiff contends she met with a human resources representative to discuss the possibility of employment with the defendant. Mallet asserts that when she went to meet with the store manager he instructed her to sit in a chair in his office and when she did it collapsed beneath her. The plaintiff claims she suffered injuries to her head, neck, right arm and right ankle in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to repair furniture, failing to warn visitors of the broken furniture, acting with indifference towards the safety of others, failing to maintain a safe place for visitors, failing to ensure the safety of visitors and failing to inspect and maintain chairs.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.
