Insurance Company denies policy coverage over wind damage, lawsuit claims

A Louisiana insurance company denied wind-storm damage coverage after three hurricanes, according to a recent lawsuit filed by New Orleans resident Curly Johnson, Sr.

Johnson is suing Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Company over wind damage his property on Desire Drive sustained during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Gustav.

In his petition filed April 23 in Orleans Parish District Court, Johnson claims he timely filed a claim, but his insurer did not pay full coverage for property damage, loss of use of property, mold remediation, loss of contents and debris removal.

He is asking for an award of the coverage lined out in his policy, penalties, attorney's fees, interest, and court costs.

New Orleans attorney David W. Bernberg of the Law Office of David W. Bernberg is representing Johnson.

Judge Lloyd J. Medley is assigned to the case.
