Realty group sues to collect past due balance

A New Orleans realty group is suing a previous tenant for $25,000 in past due rent.

Sahuque Realty filed suit against Riverstone Galleries and Steven Chang June 15 in Orleans Parish District Court.

Riverstone Galleries entered into a commercial one-year gross lease with Sahuque Realty November 1, 2008 for the property on Royal Street.

The parties agreed to renew the lease for a second year at a price of $5,000 per month. Sahuque Realty says Riverstone stopped paying rent in December 2009. Sahuque Realty representatives claim Riverstone has failed to pay the $25,000 past due balance. The plaintiff had Riverstone evicted from the rental property May 3, 2010.

In addition to the past due balance, Sahuque Realty is asking the Court to award attorney fees, court costs and interest.

New Orleans attorney Gary Giepert of Ricci & Giepert is representing Sahuque Realty.

Judge Kern A. Reese is assigned to the case.
