Orleans Parish resident files med mal suit against Tulane Hospital

An Orleans Parish resident has filed a lawsuit alleging medical malpractice after a procedure to treat renal cancer left her with a perforated colon.

Geraldine Hall filed suit against Dr. Barry Blank, Dr. Douglas Casey, Dr. Benjamin Lee and University Healthcare System doing business as Tulane University Hospital and Clinic July 26 in Orleans Parish District Court.

The procedure was performed in August 2009 to treat left renal cell carcinoma. Hall says that during the procedure her left kidney encroached upon the colon causing a perforation.

The defendants are accused of negligence for failing to use due care, failing to properly perform a surgical procedure, failing to properly diagnose and treat Hall's injuries, infections and abscesses, failing to adequately identify the risk caused by the colon's close proximity to the kidney lesion and failing to discontinue the CT to prevent damage to the colon.

She is seeking damages for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical bills, permanent disability, interest, court costs and attorney fees.

Hall is represented by New Orleans attorney John D. Sileo.

Judge Ethel S. Julien is assigned to the case.
