A New Orleans furniture store is being sued for improperly installing a television wall unit after the unit allegedly came apart and fell on a customer.
Kelly and Charlene Lockett, Iris Prevost and Ronal Prevost, Sr. filed suit against Rooms to Go Louisiana Corp. and John Doe July 27 in Orleans Parish District Court.
The alleged incident occurred on July 31 as Lockett attempted to plug a television into the outlet behind a newly-installed wall unit. As she was plugging the television in, Kelly Lockett says the wall unit came apart and the large wooden bridge between the two piers fell on her head and face, causing lacerations.
The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to properly assemble the wall unit, leaving the wall unit unstable and unsafe, using faulty and/or improper hardware components in assembling the item, failing to adequately inspect and maintain the item, failing to timely remedy the hazard, providing a faulty product, failing to warn, negligence, imprudence or want of skills, failure to hire competent employees, failure to adequately train employees and failing to develop and implement a safe delivery and assembly plan.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for medical expenses, mental and physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, scarring and disfigurement, loss of wages, income and earning capacity, loss of enjoyment, interest, court costs and expenses.
