A Mississippi resident has filed suit against JC Penney asking for more than $500,000 in damages after she slipped in water and fell.
Accusing the store of knowing about the hazard, Dovie Williams filed the complaint on Oct. 26 in federal court in New Orleans.
The alleged incident occurred on April 15 as Williams was using the restroom in the Penney's store in Slidell. She states she was in the restroom and slipped on water that had accumulated on the floor.
Williams alleges she suffered serious and debilitating injuries including a fractured ankle and injury to the knee which requires surgery.
She is seeking more than $500,000 in damages for loss of wages, physical pain and suffering, mental and emotional pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, court costs and interest.
Williams is represented by Evette E. Ungar, George W. Bryne, Jr. and Cheryl L. Wild of Ungar & Byrne in New Orleans.
U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon is assigned to the case.
