Woman sues hotel after fall on stairs during tour

An Orleans Parish woman is suing the Avenue Plaza Hotel and Wyndham Vacation Ownership Inc. after she fell down stairs, alleging that the coating and/or film on the stairs posed an unreasonable risk of harm.

New Orleans attorneys Douglas Howard Jr. and Jonathan Pedersen filed a suit on behalf of Kimberly Moore on Dec. 20 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. The petition for damages states that Moore slipped on stairs during a tour in the Ashley House, owned by Wyndham.

The suit claims the defendants are liable for "careless disregard for the safety of its customers, patrons and tourists" and "allowing untrained and unsupervised employees to conduct tours" among other claims.

Moore claims that she "sustained severe and painful physical injuries to her body as well as shock and injury to her nervous system and psyche, the final sequella of which is yet unknown."

The suit is asking for damages to pay for her injuries as well as past, present and future medical expenses and other damages.

Orleans Parish Judge Robin Giarusso has been assigned this case.
