Construction company sued for failing to barricade boat launch

A Jefferson Parish couple has filed a lawsuit against a local construction company for failing to barricade a boat launch that was under construction.

Marian and James Prigmore filed suit against Jim Cooley Construction Inc., ABC Insurance Co., Great Southern Dredging Inc. and XYZ Insurance Co. on Dec. 30 in Jefferson Parish District Court. The defendants removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Feb. 4.

An accident occurred on Sept. 6, 2010 as the Prigmores were walking into the Bonnabel Boat Launch Are. Marian Prigmore claims she slipped off the blacktop into the rubble at the edge of the blacktop, causing injuries.

She claims that the premises lacked a proper and safe walkway or that the area should have been barricaded from the public during construction.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages for medical expenses, mental anguish, physical pain and suffering, physical disfigurement, loss of wages, loss of consortium, court costs and interest.

The Prigmores are represented by Chalmette attorney Frank D. Ippolito.
