After receiving injuries in a wreck on the Huey P. Long Bridge, a Jefferson Parish resident has filed a lawsuit against the truck driver claiming that the tractor-trailer hit his vehicle when attempting to change lanes.
James and Tonya Aikman filed suit against Charles Evans Trucking, Joseph Hensarling Jr. and Cherokee Insurance Co. on Feb. 1 in federal court in New Orleans.
According to the complaint, James Aikman was traveling westbound on the bridge on Feb. 2, 2010 when the accident occurred. Aikman states that he was in the right lane of travel when a tractor trailer operated by Defendant Joseph Hensarling began drifting into the right lane as it was passing Aikman's vehicle. Aikman claims he slowed his vehicle down and tried to move over to the right as much as possible when the trailer struck the left side of his vehicle.
James Aikman is seeking damages for physical pain and suffering, mental pain, anguish, distress, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, court costs and interest.
Tonya Aikman is seeking an award of damages for loss of consortium, including loss of love and affection.
The Aikmans are represented by Baton Rouge attorney Joseph J. Long.
U.S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle is assigned to the case.
