Lawsuit claims Dollar Rent-A-Car liable for collision involving rented Jeep

An Orleans Parish man is suing Dollar Rent-A-Car and the driver of one of their Jeeps after a hit-and-run accident that occurred in January.

New Orleans attorneys Dean Favret, Anthony Russo, Seth Schaumburg and Angela Imbornone filed the suit on behalf of Kumar Fernando and Patra Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

The suit names DTG Operations, which runs Dollar, and Leeandre Brewer, who is listed as "domiciled in the State of Houston."

The suit claims Fernando and Brewer were traveling down Poydras Street when Brewer turned from the center lane to the left lane and crashed into Fernando's vehicle before driving away.

Fernando "sustained injuries consisting of injuries to his shoulders, neck, back and spine, in addition to injuries to his entire body," the suit states.

The suit also states that Fernando's vehicle, which is owned by Patra Inc., "was extensively damaged."

The defendants are liable for negligence in failing to yield the right of way, driving inattentively and committing a hit-and-run.

The suit was filed June 9 and has been assigned Orleans Parish Judge Rosemary Ledet.
