Orleans Parish School Board sued for failure to fully pay insurance deductible

Hoskins

NEW ORLEANS - The Orleans Parish School Board is being sued by an insurance company for not fully paying a deductible stemming from legal expenses from a labor lawsuit.

National Union Fire Insurance Company filed suit on Dec. 22 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against the Orleans Parish School Board.

The plaintiff asserts that in 2004-2005 it provided legal insurance for the school board with a deductible of $250,000. During that time period the school board was sued by employee Geraldine Ebbs for failure to pay overtime, which resulted in National Union paying out over $355,000 in legal defense and settlement expenses. The plaintiff has verified the school board paid nearly all of the deductible, but still owes nearly $4,300.

The filing for the present suit itself cost the insurance company over $500.

National Union Fire Insurance Company is being represented by Maryann J. Hoskins of New Orleans-based Degan, Blanchard and Nash.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Michael G. Bagneris.

Case number 2011-13139
