'Mr. Mardi Gras' Blaine Kern named in foreclosure suit

Blaine S. Kern

NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans-based bank is foreclosing on a property co-signed for by a well-known Mardi Gras float builder.

Whitney Bank filed suit against Blaine S. Kern and Holly Lynn Brown on Jan. 6 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. The case asserts Kern, the owner of Mardi Gras World, and Brown failed to pay the mortgage on a New Orleans property. The property in question lists the two as co-owners and co-signers on the mortgage.

The bank is asking for more than $283,000 from the defendants to cover the mortgage balance plus an additional amount to cover other expenses.

Whitney Bank is being represented by Clay J. Legros of Metairie-based Newman, Mathis, Brady and Spedale.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
