Property owner sues business partner tenant

NEW ORLEANS - The owner of a Virginia-based property company is suing his former business partner for failing to pay a commercial lease.

Christopher Sarpy of Sarpy/Hixon Development filed suit in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Jan. 11 against Neal Hixon of the Magazine Wine Club.

The case states that Sarpy and Hixon entered into a real estate business partnership in 2002, but elected to eliminate their partnership in August of 2011. Sarpy claims Hixon owes him $162,488 in back rent for the lease agreement for the Magazine Wine Club owned and operated by Hixon. The plaintiff claims the defendant never paid any rent on the property.

Damages sought include repayment of back rent and an additional charge of $16,535.46 for allegedly breaching the lease agreement.

Sarpy is being represented by Raymond B. Landry of Metairie-based Mollere, Flanagan and Landry.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
