Woman sues for falling on stairs she did not see

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a New Orleans property holder and its tenant for injuries she claims were caused by a fall on the property.

Mary Ellen Harwood filed suit on Jan. 23 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against 1310 Rampart, LLC and Artfully Aware. Harwood alleges she fell on the property's stairs because they were difficult to see by virtue of being painted black.

The plaintiff claims she received serious and painful injuries to her wrists, left ankle and left shoulder that required multiple surgeries. Harwood asserts the defendants presented an unreasonable and foreseeable harm to her.

An unspecified amount in damages is being sought for pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish, physical impairment, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.

Harwood is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney Spencer R. Doody.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
