NEW ORLEANS – A security guard is suing a construction company that was doing work at a facility she was guarding for injuries she says she received while on the property.
Joann Jackson filed suit on Jan. 10 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Professional Construction Services. Jackson claims she was working as a security guard at a Conoco oil refinery when she received injuries from stepping in a hole.
The filing states that Professional Construction Services are the correct defendants rather than the property owners because they were responsible for upkeep and maintenance on the property. The plaintiff claims the hole was left after a plastic cap on top of a piling degraded. Jackson asserts the defendants should have known the premises were unsafe, fixed the problem and taken actions to warn of the danger until the problem was alleviated.
Jackson is being represented by New Orleans attorney Brett E. Emmanuel.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Herbert A. Cade.
