Woman sues Wal-Mart for wrongful termination following workers' compensation claim

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing Wal-Mart alleging she was fired after filing a workers' compensation claim.

Carolyn Bailey filed suit on Feb. 16 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Wal-Mart. Bailey claims she was terminated following an on the job injury.

She alleges Wal-Mart terminated her for abandoning her job after she turned down two offers of further employment with the company. The filing states those two job offers were strategically placed within time slots Wal-Mart managers knew Bailey could not accept due to child care issues.

The plaintiff is asking for an award equal to a year's salary plus attorney's fees.

Bailey is being represented by William R. Mustain III of Metairie-based Stanga and Mustain.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
