GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing his former employer for injuries he claims happened at the work place.
George Shannon Laiche filed suit on March 1 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Tulane University Hospital and Clinic.
Laiche claims he was injured in an unspecified workplace accident in September 2010. He alleges he immediately received treatment at the Tulane emergency room and eventually developed a joint disorder due to injuries allegedly caused by the accident.
Laiche also claims he was placed on "no work" status immediately following the accident until he was released from his employment on March 1, 2011. The plaintiff asserts he was illegally terminated from the position and that Tulane failed to provide either medical or wage benefits after he filed a workers' compensation claim following the accident. The defendant is accused of discriminatory employment actions.
Damages in the amount of the plaitiff's annual salary plus legal and attorney's fees are being sought.
Laiche is being represented by George P. Vourvoulias, II of New Orleans-based Harmon, Smith & Vourvoulias, LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
