Sweet Things & Grill files legal malpractice suit against former attorney

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish restaurant has filed suit against a local attorney over allegations of legal malpractice.

Sweet Things filed suit on Jan. 30 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Anne Neeb, Couhig Partners, LLC and their insurers.

The plaintiff claims Neeb was retained by the company to assist in navigating its way through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The defendant is accused of not providing a detailed bankruptcy plan or court-ordered disclosure statement within a time period fixed by the court. Sweet Things also alleges Neeb did not file an extension once the disclosure date expired.

The restaurant also asserts it lost the opportunity to control the outcome of its bankruptcy due to the defendant's supposed failures.

Due to the lack of a plan, the plaintiff claims the company was liquidated according to the trustee's motion.

Damages in an amount exceeding $50,000 is sought by the plaintiff for the defendant being below the standard of competency as a bankruptcy attorney.

Sweet Things is being represented by Scott T. Winstead of New Orleans-based Sutterfield and Webb, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
