NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing a public transit operator for injuries she claims she incurred when trying to board a streetcar.
Arlene R. Holley filed suit on March 5 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Veolia Transportation Services, Transit Management of Southeast Louisiana, Regional Transit Authority and an unknown streetcar conductor.
Holley claims she was boarding a streetcar and attempting to insert her fare into the money slot when the streetcar conductor closed the door on her arm and dragged with the vehicle.
The plaintiff claims the incident resulted in severe injuries that require ongoing medical treatment. The defendants are accused of not waiting for the plaintiff to fully board the vehicle, disregarding the safety of others, operating the vehicle in a careless and reckless manner and not ensuring a passenger was out of the doorway before closing the door.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and suffering and loss of wages.
Holley is being represented by Frank D. Ippolito of Chalmette-based Law Offices of Frank D. Ippolito.
The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarusso.
