West Jefferson Hospital and Sodexho sued by family of deceased woman

GRETNA – The family of a deceased Jefferson Parish woman has filed a slip and fall against a hospital and its janitorial service contractor.

The estate of Joyce Adams filed suit on March 12 in 24th Judicial District Court against West Jefferson Medical Center and Sodexho Management.

The plaintiff claims Adams was a patient at the hospital when she slipped on a clear liquid in the bathroom and fell. Sodexho was named in the suit because they were contracted by the hospital to provide janitorial services. The defendants are accused of allowing a hazard to exist, not warning of the danger, not inspecting and cleaning up spills, not maintaining the floor in a safe condition and allowing a hazard to exist after being notified of it.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of enjoyment of life, past and future pain and suffering, medical expenses, economic damages and loss of consortium.

The Adams estate is being represented by Gretna-based attorney Pierre F. Gaudin.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison, Jr.
