Attorney sued for legal malpractice in handling of rental car accident case

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing her former attorney who she claims negligently represented her.

Anne Swanson filed suit on March 2 against Karl Wiedeman and the Wiedeman Law Firm in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

Swanson claims she hired Wiedeman after getting in an accident with a car she rented from Budget Rent A Car. The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently represented her by failing to appeal to the dismissal of liability of Geico Insurance, a defendant in the case, in a timely manner.

The rental car company now claims the plaintiff owes it $10,000. The filing states the defendant failed to present the plaintiff with a reimbursement of legal fees and the complete case file following the failed appeal. The defendant is accused of failing to act as a prudent and reasonable attorney and causing the plaintiff to incur damages.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought to cover the plaintiff's loss and damages in addition to attorney's fees and research costs.

Swanson representing herself.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
