New Orleans Convention Center sued by woman who claims injury from defective laundry room shelf

NEW ORLEANS – A Bossier City woman is suing a local convention center for injuries she claims happened on their premises.

Kayla Freeman filed suit on March 2 against the New Orleans Convention Center in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Freeman claims she was a guest at a local hotel when she was directed to the Hilton Garden Inn within the convention center for laundry facilities.

The plaintiff alleges she entered the defendant's laundry room and when she leaned on a shelf on her elbows the shelf came loose and struck her in the face. Freeman claims the incident caused her to lose a tooth and left her in considerable pain. The plaintiff asserts the blow to the face resulted in medical and dental expenses to repair her teeth and jaw. Freeman claims the accident was caused entirely by the defective shelf.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical-dental expenses and pain and suffering.

Freeman is being represented by Shreveport-based attorney J. Broocks Greer, III.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Michael G. Bagneris.
