Woman sues construction company after allegedly falling on metal bar

A New Orleans woman is suing a construction company for injuries she claims to have received while exiting a home.

Deanna Valentine filed suit against R. B. Construction in the Orleans Parish Central DIstrict Court on April 19.

Valentine claims she was exiting through the outdoor staircase of a home located at 4400 St. Anthony St. in New Orleans when she fell and landed on a bar protruding from the ground. The plaintiff alleges she suffered severe injuries to her leg in the fall.

The defendant is accused of constructing a staircase in a dangerous manner, acting with indifference towards others safety and failing to comply with building codes.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement, lost wages and medical expenses.

Valentine is represented by Joseph M. Bruno, Jr. of New Orleans-based Bruno & Bruno.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

Case number 2012-03834.
