Property inspector files suit after stairs allegedly fall out from under him

Robert P. Charbonnet

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing a property owner for injuries he claims to have received on while inspecting their property.

Douglas Pertuit filed suit against Louis Ugalde Properties, LLC and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 15.

Pertuit claims he was conducting a vacancy inspection at the defendant's property when he stepped on solid concrete steps that were not correctly attached to the building and fell forward onto the sidewalk and was injured.

The defendant is accused of permitting a dangerous condition to exist, failing to take proper action to correct the defect, failing to warn the plaintiff of the problem and failing to inspect the stairs.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, medical expenses, pain and suffering, wage loss, permanent impairment, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life and transportation expense.

Pertuit is represented by Robert P. Charbonnet of the Metairie-based Charbonnet Law Firm, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Patrick J. McCabe.

Case number 716000.
