Detective sues janitorial service for slip and fall at Sheriff's Office

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish detective is suing the janitorial service of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for injuries she claims to have received due to their services.

Jo Lynn Cummings has filed suit against Empire Services of Baton Rouge, Inc and their insurer. Cummings claims she was entering the restroom at work that had just been mopped when she slipped on water and fell to the floor.

The plaintiff alleges she received severe and disabling injuries in the fall including injury to her right shoulder, tingling in her arms and fingers, neck injury and nerve damage. Cummings asserts she has been relegated to "light duty" since the incident which has resulted in a reduction of income and job advancement.

The defendant is accused of failing to use reasonable care in keeping floors in safe condition, failing to keep premises free of hazardous conditions, failing to properly inspect the premises, failing to establish proper procedures for cleaning and inspection and allowing a foreign substance to remain on the floor.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain, disability, medical expenses and impairment of earning capacity.

Cummings is represented by attorney Kevin R. Krause of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Donald A. Rowan, Jr.

Case no. 716-231.
