Woman sues for injuries allegedly received after elevator falls

GRETNA – A St. Tammany woman is suing a Jefferson Parish building owner for injuries she claims to have received in an elevator malfunction.

Ginger Lewis filed suit against Stewart Development, LLC, Schindler Elevator Corporation and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 22.

Lewis claims she entered an elevator at Heritage Plaza, operated by Stewart Enterprises, at 111 Veterans Boulevard in Metairie on an upper floor and as the elevator was transporting her it stopped then dropped an unknown distance before coming to s stop. She claims the sudden jolt when the elevator dropped caused an instant pain in her back.

Lewis also asserts she sustained severe injuries to her muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, a disc protrusion and compression of a nerve root in her back.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for severe physical pain, keen emotional anguish, medical care expenses, disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Lewis is represented by Vincent J. Glorioso, Jr. of the New Orleans-based Glorioso Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
