Man claims he was injured after slipping in sewage spilling out of his toilet

James A. Hatch

GRETNA – A Marrero man is suing Jefferson Parish for damages he claims he received due to activities by the parish's sewage department.

Ciro Pennino filed suit against the Parish of Jefferson in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 29, claiming employees of the parish were working outside of his home when sewage began to spill out of his toilet. He alleges that as he attempted to exit his home to tell the employees that the work they were doing was flooding his home he slipped in a puddle of sewage and fell on his knee.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly install sewage and water pipes, failing to inspect property, failing to install warning signs, failing to properly train employees and failing to warn of a defective underground pipe.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, special care and services, loss of enjoyment of lie and permanent disabilities.

The plaintiff is being represented by Metairie-based attorney James A. Hatch.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen S. Kovach.

Case no. 716-545.
