Assistant engineer sues employer for $1 million

NEW ORLEANS - An assistant engineer has filed a lawsuit against his employer claiming injuries for having to manually install machinery without the use of proper equipment.

Jason Holton filed suit against Express Marine Inc. and Express Marine Transportation on June 28 in federal court in New Orleans.

The alleged incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2011 while Holton was working as an assistant engineer aboard the M/V Baltimore. Holton claims that he was injured when he was ordered to install an after cooler manually without the use of the proper equipment.

The plaintiff is asking for an award of more than $1.25 million in damages for physical and mental pain and suffering, physical scarring, disability, loss of wage earning capacity, found and fringe benefits, maintenance and cure, plus attorney's fees, court costs and interest.

Holton is represented by Paul M. Sterbcow of Lewis, Kullman, Sterbcow & Abramson in New Orleans.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan is assigned to the case.
