Man files suit against 41 defendants in Orleans Parish claiming asbestosis

NEW ORLEANS – A number of companies are being sued by a man over asbestos exposure.

Donald Thomas filed suit against American Standard et al in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 2.

Thomas has filed suit against 41 defendants who he claims are responsible to him being exposed to large amounts of asbestos through manufacturing, selling, designing, supplying, distributing, mining, milling, re-labeling, reselling, processing, applying and installing asbestos and asbestos containing materials. THe plaintiff claims his occupational exposure has resulted in his lung cancer and asbestosis. Thomas asserts he did not know of the dangers of asbestos until one year before his diagnosis.

The defendants are accused of creating hazardous and deadly conditions in which the plaintiff was exposed to large amounts of asbestos fibers.

Thomas is represented by Frank J. Swarr of New Orleans-based Landry, Swarr & Cannella.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Lloyd J. Medley.
