NEW ORLEANS - Shell Oil is being sued for neglect by a man who injured his back during helicopter emergency training at the Shell Training and Conference Center.
Douglas Holmes filed suit against Shell Oil Co. on July 19 in federal court in New Orleans.
The alleged incident occurred as Holmes was employed by Helmerich & Payne International Drilling and was receiving helicopter emergency training at the Shell Roberts Training and Conference Center in Roberts.
Holmes states he suffered a severe and permanent back injury during repeated simulated helicopter overturning crashes into a large swimming pool on April 4, 2011.
The defendant is accused of fault, neglect, and negligence.
The plaintiff is seeking damages for mental and physical pain and suffering, physical disability and impairment, impairment of earning capacity, loss of wages, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, interest, and court costs.
Holmes is represented by New Orleans attorneys Laurence E. Best and Cristin D. Morneau. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman is assigned to the case.
