GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman has sued a major health insurance company for allegedly denying coverage for a procedure.
Jenea Elizabeth Hatty filed suit against Louisiana Healthcare Service & Indemnity and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 2.
Hatty claims she was insured through Blue Cross and Blue Shield which allegedly notified her on May 4, 2012 that a medical procedure she underwent would not be paid for through insurance. The plaintiff alleges that due to the defendant not paying for the procedure she has an outstanding medical bill.
The defendant is accused of breaching its duty by not remitting payment for the treatment.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for Blue Cross and Blue Shield to reimburse Hatty for the cost of the medical procedure.
Hatty is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Timothy R. Richardson.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
