Family Dollar sued in trip and fall case

BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge woman is suing discount retail store after she was allegedly injured on its premise.

Deborah Gaines filed suit against Family Dollar Stores of Louisiana, Inc. in the 19th Judicial Court on Aug. 15. Gaines claims she fell on uneven concrete entering the store, located at 6832 Florida Blvd., and caused injuries and bruises to her arms, shoulder, lower back, hip and upper torso. The plaintiff asserts the uneven concrete was covered by a mat and was hidden.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain its entrance way for its patrons in a safe manner, failing to post proper marking and signs to warn of dangers and failing to provide safe passage to and from its store entrance.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical therapy services, physicians' professional services, health care facilities services, prescription medication, sever pain and suffering, neurosis, loss wages and lost of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney Victor J. Woods, Jr. of Addis.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge William A. Morvant.
