NEW ORLEANS - A seaman has filed a lawsuit seeking $1.5 million claiming he ruptured to discs in his back while he was attempting to transfer 55 gallon barrels from a vessel to a floating dock.
James Fontenot filed suit against Prosper Operators Inc. and Hunt Oil Co. on Nov. 8 in federal court in New Orleans.
Fontenot was employed by Prosper and was in service to Hunt Oil on wells located in the waters near Berwick, La. at the time of the alleged incident on April 1, 2012. Fontenot states he suffered permanent injuries to his lower back as he attempted to transfer 55 gallon barrels from the M/V No Fear to Hunt’s floating dock.
The plaintiff is asking for damages for medical expenses, lost income, mental and physical pain and suffering, disability, maintenance and cure, interest, and cure.
