Tulane-Lakeside doctor sued for misdiagnosing appendicitis as food poisoning

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local doctor for misdiagnosing a serious medical condition and sending her home after she came to his emergency room.

Maudel Warden filed suit against Dr. Basel Altaqi in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 24. Warden claims she visited the Tulane-Lakeside Medical Center complaining of severe abdominal pain and that Dr. Altaqi released her with a diagnosis of food poisoning without completing an abdominal exam. The plaintiff alleges that she again went to Tulane-Lakeside Medical Center suffering from more severe pain at which time it was found that she was suffering from severe appendicitis. Warden asserts that due to the delay in her diagnosis her recovery was complicated and she spent several days in the hospital.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, physical pain and suffering, lost wages and unnecessary medical expenses.

Warden is represented by Todd R. Slack of New Orleans-based Huber, Slack, Houghtaling, Pandit & Thomas, LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan.

Case no. 720-448.
