GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing a retail corporation for injuries she claims to have received in one of the retailer’s nearby locations.
Carolyn II. Navarrete filed suit against Kmart Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 7. Navarrete claims that she was checking out at the Kmart located on 7000 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie when a store employee shifted two ladders she had in her cart as she was scanning them. The plaintiff claims that as she was leaving the store one of the ladders shifted and struck her in the face resulting in injuries.
The defendant is accused of arranging merchandise in a customer’s shopping cart in a careless and reckless manner and failing to exercise due and ordinary care and caution commensurate with surrounding circumstances.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, dental expenses, physical pain and suffering and mental pain and suffering.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner.
