GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing a retail store after she slipped and fell in a puddle of water while shopping.

Debra Charles filed suit against Michael’s Stores, Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 9.

Charles claims she was walking down one of the aisles at the Michael’s located at 1601 Westbank Expressway in Harvey. The plaintiff alleges that the puddle she slipped in formed from water dripping from the ceiling and accumulating on the floor.

The defendant is accused of maintaining unreasonably dangerous conditions, failing to rectify the drip from the ceiling, failing to discover the hazard and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain and suffering, physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of wages, permanent and residual injury and loss of life’s pleasures.

Charles is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Robert W. “Doe” Booksch.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.

Case no. 720-959.
