Jefferson Parish sues man for running over trees

GRETNA – A man who allegedly lost control of his bus and ran over three trees planted in a median is being sued by the parish government.

The Parish of Jefferson filed suit against Gregory Arcenaux in the 24th Judicial District Court. Jefferson Parish claims that Arcenaux was operating a bus on Segnette Boulevard in Westwego when he lost control of it and ran over three bald cypress trees planted in the road’s median. T

The defendant is accused of gross and wanton negligence, lack of skill, failing to keep a proper lookout, driving at an unlawful and excessive rate of speed, failing to keep the vehicle under proper and adequate control so as to keep from striking the plaintiff’s property and failing to apply the vehicle’s brakes properly.

Damages in the amount of $26,850 are sought by the plaintiff.

The Parish of Jefferson is represented by Assistant Parish Attorney W. Reed Smith.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib, Jr.
