GRETNA – The family of a man killed on the job when his utility vehicle flipped over into a canal is suing a number of entities related to the work.
Ericka Goudy, Jacob Alexander Edwards and the succession of Alex’saunder Edwards filed suit against Waste Management of Louisiana, Waste Management National Services, Associated Marine & Industrial Services, Jefferson Parish Landfill, Kubota Tractor Corporation and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court. The plaintiffs claim Alex’saunder Edwards, as an employee of the Jefferson Parish Landfill, was operating a Kubota utility vehicle when it flipped into an unguarded drainage canal and where he was pinned under the vehicle and died. The plaintiff alleges that the deceased did not have proper training to operate the unregistered vehicle.
The defendant is accused of failing to train, intentionally failing to follow laws, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to warn, failing to guard against life threatening situations and failing to maintain standard of care.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, loss of parental guidance and friendship, lost wages, impairment of earning capacity, medical expenses and wrongful death.
The plaintiffs are represented by Vercell F. Fiffie of the Edgard-based Fiffie Law Firm.
The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Hans J. Liljeberg.
Case no. 721-196.
